Interest Rate Update
Today's Interest Rates from Realty Times are based on a 30 year amortization rate, with good credit and no origination fees.
With no major economic news today to report, mortgage rates are stable.

How do we get our rates?
Most mortgage rate surveys contain old data, sometimes a week old, as in Freddie Mac's weekly interest rate survey. Still other mortgage rate services poll different lenders in such a confusing format that it's hard to understand with such polls being nothing more than lenders advertisements.
Our mortgage rates are culled from actual rate sheets from major lenders each and every day as soon as they're released. The rates are fresh and accurate and benefit our readers with no bias towards one lender or another.

NC officials say 900 jobs will come to Wilmington
GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy to expand headquarters in NC; add 900 jobs
NEW YORK (Associated Press) - GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy will bring 900 jobs to the Wilmington area over the next five years as it expands its world headquarters in New Hanover County.
Gov. Mike Easley said Wednesday the company plans to invest $704 million to bring new manufacturing and testing facilities to its 1,300-acre campus. GE Hitachi is expected to receive as much as $25.7 million in state incentives if the jobs are created and sustained for 12 years.
GE Hitachi employs more than 4,400 people in North Carolina, including more than 2,000 in New Hanover County.
Jobless rate drops in Wilmington
The Wilmington area’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.8 percent in March from 5.2 percent in February, but it still stood more than a percentage point higher than in March 2007, according to a report released Tuesday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Wilmington compared favorably in March with other North Carolina metro areas and the state as a whole.
But Wilmington’s year-over-year comparisons widened in March.
Unemployment here was 1.1 percentage points higher last month than the 3.7 percent in March 2007. February’s 5.2 percent unemployment rate was 0.9 percentage point higher than the 4.3 percent in February 2007.
“In southeastern North Carolina, the first quarter of the year is the slowest quarter,” said William Hall, an economist at the Cameron School of Business at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
In the short run, joblessness is conforming to historical patterns, Hall said Tuesday.
In the intermediate term, unemployment is rising, but for various reasons, he said: from a slowing of business to an increase in the number of people seeking jobs – both residents and people arriving from elsewhere without a job in hand.
April’s figures could reveal more about the jobs picture here, Hall said, because the second quarter is historically stronger for hiring.
